This publication presents two major
reports on violence and social exclusion in disadvantaged urban areas. Both
reports examine policies, processes and measures undertaken to overcome
social exclusion and build social cohesion, particularly with young people.
The first report looks at the extent and cause of urban deprivation and main spatial patterns in Europe and how this is linked to youth violence. The second concentrates on the United Kingdom, and examines the transition from the welfare state to stakeholder (welfare) society and the new socio-political and socio-economic structures devised to regenerate social cohesion in disadvantaged neighbourhoods.
